Woodrow Wilson was president. There was a worldwide Spanish Flu pandemic. The end of World War I was still more than two months away.
And James Poteat was born.
The World War II veteran celebrated his 102nd birthday on Thursday. He lived everywhere from North Carolina to New York before settling in Springer, Oklahoma, Carter County, USA.
Mr. Poteat celebrated the milestone with his family surrounding him.
"I'm glad they come and see me," he said. "They're taking care of me."
Mr. Poteat said he has plans to keep up the pace.
